Equal Pay and Living Wage Policy

Introduction

At Solacia and its subsidiaries, we are dedicated to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment where all employees are treated with respect and have the opportunity to reach their full potential without prejudice or discrimination. A core aspect of this commitment is ensuring equal pay for equal work and adopting fair wage practices that reflect the real cost of living.

Policy Statement

We are committed to ensuring that all employees, regardless of gender or any other protected characteristic, receive equal pay for equal work. This includes not only salary but also other terms and conditions such as bonuses, promotion opportunities, and access to training programmes. Differences in pay will only be justified when based on factors unrelated to protected characteristics, such as job level, qualifications, or experience.

In addition to our commitment to equal pay, we recognise the importance of paying wages that meet the real cost of living. Therefore, we are committed to paying at least the Real Living Wage as calculated by the Living Wage Foundation. As of 23 October 2024, the Real Living Wage rates are £12.60 per hour across the UK and £13.85 per hour in London.

Equal Pay Legislative Framework

We adhere to the Equality Act 2010, which outlines the legal rights of workers and the obligations of employers regarding equal pay and other anti-discrimination measures. Under this legislation, employees are entitled to compare their contractual entitlements with those of a ‘named comparator’ to ensure equality. Employees may make comparisons based on:

Like work

Work that is the same or broadly similar.

Work rated as equivalent

Work that has been rated under a job evaluation scheme as equivalent.

Work of equal value

Work that is different but of equal value in terms of skill, effort, and responsibility.

Commitments

We are committed to:

Conducting annual equal pay audits and taking corrective action to resolve any issues identified.

Creating an environment where individual differences are respected and the contributions of all staff are recognised and valued.

Ensuring that every employee, worker, or self-employed contractor has access to a working environment that promotes dignity and respect.

Providing appropriate training and development to all supervisors and managers involved in pay decisions.

Offering transparency to employees regarding pay practices and the criteria used to determine their pay.

Ensuring equal access to progression opportunities for all employees.

Reviewing all employment practices and pay structures regularly to ensure fairness and compliance with equal pay legislation.

Paying at least the Real Living Wage as calculated by the Living Wage Foundation to all employees.

Grievance Procedure

If an employee has concerns regarding their pay, they are encouraged to raise these concerns informally in the first instance. However, if the issue is not resolved, they may follow Solacia’s formal grievance procedure. Equal pay grievances are treated as a priority, and we are committed to addressing such concerns promptly. Employees can also direct more general feedback or questions about the policy to their line manager or the HR department, where appropriate action will be taken.

The Directors hold ultimate responsibility for ensuring the effectiveness of this Equal Pay and Living Wage Policy. The HR Manager is responsible for the policy’s implementation, monitoring, and ensuring that it is communicated and applied consistently across the organisation. Monitoring reports will be provided to the Directors, and the effectiveness of this policy will be reviewed at least annually. Where necessary, updates or changes to the policy will be made to ensure ongoing compliance with UK law and best practices.
